Volunteer Opportunities @ River Haven Homeless Shelter

"River Haven" would like to thank all who have been a part of its successful opening in January. Our continuing progress in teaching independent skills relies on all of the volunteers who have been willing to share their time and talents, hearts and hands.

The River Haven Steering Committee is asking PPC and/or a group here at PPC to accept the challenge of dedicating one day per month as our volunteering scheduling opportunity.

An example would be to "pick a date" - for instance, the 16th day of each month - and be responsible for signing up volunteers for the five time slots that need to be covered that day. This would allow each volunteer to work only one time each month, sharing the gift of caring throughout all of Columbia County.

Some of the tasks and responsibilities of a volunteer may include:

                        * offering a positive and encouraging presence, understanding that bringing a book to read during quiet times means that the shelter is successful.

                        * assisting with cleaning, food preparation and homework, as requested.

                        * preparing bedrooms for new residents

                        * being available to answer questions, interacting with residents and even playing with children

If you have "specialized skills" and might be willing to teach a "life-skills workshop" please contact Brandon at River Haven (742-7687).

If you are interested in pursuing either of these opportunities as a group, or even as an individual, please contact Adrienne at 617-2298.

Thank you for your help and your consideration as we work together to care for and support those in need.

JUNIOR HIGH MISSION TRIP - SUMMER, 2008 - DULUTH, MN

Plans continue to be made for the Junior High Mission Trip to Duluth during the week of July 6-11. Alex Harvey, Nick Hankins, Meghan Messer and Brittany Ballard will be working in such places as a soup kitchen, a food pantry, clothing warehouse, a summer kid's program or a nursing care facility as they "share the good news of Jesus" through their presence and their actions.

Please remember these four young people and the adult leaders (Deb Harvey and Pastor Dave) as they minister on our behalf to those in need.

SENIOR HIGH MISSION TRIP - SUMMER, 2008 - NEW ORLEANS, LA

We now have our "full contingent" of mission trippers for this trip - including our "female adult leader."

Those going to New Orleans in June will be Alyssa Crossley, Kayla Ballard, Colter Joles, Ryan Carney, Dan Bennett, Kathy Bennett, Kami Bornick, Taylor Bornick. Julie Gerner and Pastor Dave will be the adult leaders.

Please remember our Senior High Mission Trippers and adult leaders in your prayers as we begin to plan and prepare for the trip in June, 2008
