PASTORAL CARE POLICY CHANGES

Divine Savior Hospital will no longer make patient information available for pastors or churches at the front desk. There are only two ways that pastors and churches will have information on those in the hospital:

            1)         If patients and/or families sign a "waver form" which enables the Pastoral Care Staff of Divine Savior to contact the church office or the pastor

            2)         If the patient or family contacts the church office or pastor directly.

If you or a family member do not specifically inform the Divine Savior staff that you want the church office or the Pastor to be notified, no notification will be made.

If you have questions, please contact Pastor Dave.

"BREESE FUND FOR THE NEEDY"

Over 30 years ago, the Llewelyn Breese Fund for the Needy was established with a bequest. The will specified that the fund ".. shall be held in trust and used for the benefit of any underprivileged children of the church."

The administration of this fund is entrusted to Elders Jane Considine and Jim Armson, who have been appointed by the Session, along with the Pastor Dave, who serves as the Chairperson.

If you are in need or have a suggestion of someone from the church who may need assistance of this type, please contact a committee member. All contacts are held in strictest confidence.

THANK YOU

       The Event’s Committee

 has just completed another

successful Terri Lynn Candy

and Nut sale.  A HUGE

THANK YOU to Bruce and

Julie Gerner for coordinating the

sale.  The sale netted a profit

 of $1026.00 that has been

donated to the general operating

 budget of the church.  Thanks

to all of you who purchased

the candy and nuts.  We

are all a little or a lot

“sweeter” than

we were before.

THANK YOU

I would like to say thank

you to Deb

 Harvey for making my

address labels. Thank

you all for the cards and

helping me.  Thank you

to Jill for giving me rides

to church.  It all helps me

so much.  It is fun sending cards

to people that can’t get out.

CHURCH SIGN

            Have you noticed that

the church sign is back in use?

If not, be sure and check it out.

After thawing it out due to the

freezing rain, snow etc we are

able to use it again.  The Event’s

Committee has taken over the sign.

If you have an event, etc that you

would like displayed on the sign

 please contact Nancy or Bruce.

JUNIOR HIGH MISSION TRIP - SUMMER, 2008 - DULUTH, MN

Plans continue to be made for the Junior High Mission Trip to Duluth during the week of July 6-11. Alex Harvey, Nick Hankins, Meghan Messer and Brittany Ballard will be working in such places as a soup kitchen, a food pantry, clothing warehouse, a summer kid's program or a nursing care facility as they "share the good news of Jesus" through their presence and their actions.

Please remember these four young people and the adult leaders (Deb Harvey and Pastor Dave) as they minister on our behalf to those in need.

SENIOR HIGH MISSION TRIP - SUMMER, 2008 - NEW ORLEANS, LA

We now have our "full contingent" of mission trippers for this trip - including our "female adult leader."

Those going to New Orleans in June will be Alyssa Crossley, Kayla Ballard, Colter Joles, Ryan Carney, Dan Bennett, Kathy Bennett, Kami Bornick, Taylor Bornick. Julie Gerner and Pastor Dave will be the adult leaders.

Please remember our Senior High Mission Trippers and adult leaders in your prayers as we begin to plan and prepare for the trip in June, 2008

PORTAGE FOOD PANTRY

Thank you all so much for your recent contribution to the Portage Food Pantry!  It’s through the efforts of people like you that the pantry can continue to serve those in our community who need a “helping hand.”

Sincerely, Portage Food Pantry

BRAT AND HOT DOG SALE

Mark your calendars for June 14!!!!  The Event’s Committee will be hosting a Brat and Hot Dog sale at Wal-Mart.  Come for lunch or a late breakfast.  All profits will be donated to the general operating budget of the church.  Any questions contact Jim Armson or Nancy Schaper.

UPCOMING COMMUNION SCHEDULE

You are encouraged to take time before each scheduled Communion to reflect on the meaning of the Lord's Supper for you, for PPC and for the world.

The "Directory for Worship" notes that "in preparing to receive Christ in this Sacrament, the believer is to confess sin and brokenness, to seek reconciliation with God and neighbor, and to trust in Jesus Christ for cleansing and renewal."

As Presbyterians, we believe that coming to the Lord's Table is not a right, but a privilege given to those who come in faith, repentance and love –

the gifts of God for the people of God

Ordination and Installation of Elders and Deacons

INTERESTED IN "HOME COMMUNION?"

The Deacons, with Pastor Dave, want to be sure that those who are unable to attend worship, and especially those who are not able to share in those Celebrations of the Lord Supper, have the opportunity to have Communion. We do not want anyone to miss out!

If you are homebound (even temporarily) and would like to be included on a list for Home Communion, please contact the Church Office with your name and phone number.

When the Home Communions are schedule, you will then be contacted by a Deacon.

                                             DEACONS

The Portage Presbyterian Deacons met in January and March.

A February meeting was cancelled due to bad weather.  The Deacons

are actively working to visit shut-ins, adopt a member and those

members who have been in the hospital and nursing homes.  Several

prayers are lifted up at each Deacon meeting for those in need of prayer

and comfort.  If you would like a specific prayer of intercession for

anyone struggling or having difficulty in their lives, please contact Pastor

Dave and the Deacons will lift them up in prayer at the next meeting.

Cards are sent out on a regular basis by Coralene Wiese and we

thank her for her dedication and love with this project.  The Deacons

are responsible for Home Communion with Pastor Dave and also

with the setting up of communion on specific Sundays.  They are also

responsible for ordering flowers for the alter.  The Deacons will serve

fellowship hour in June.  At the April meeting it was discussed that specific

Deacons will possibly attend funerals of members that passed away.

PPC Magnets were ordered and are available in the church office.

We welcome our newest members Lynne Warren, Mary Kingsley

and Liz Hoversten.  If there is any other communication that needs

attention for the Deacons, please contact Moderator Liz Bellmore.

The Deacons will put a correspondence in the newsletter on a

quarterly basis.  God Bless those who serve!

Respectfully Submitted by Toni Armson

Mission Trip Variety Show

"AND WHAT A SHOW IT WAS..."

PPC's "Variety" show was certainly that - a show of the variety of talents in our church community.

We began the evening with a delicious meal prepared by the "mission trippers" and their families.  Then we moved on to the entertainment.

Brittany ballard was our "hostess" for the evening and did a gread job of leading us throught the many acts.

The "variety" of acts included: the Roundy family (with a take-orff on "Hee Haw"); the Bell Choir; Samantha Ballard's piano solo; Sarah Hankins and dad with a vocal solo; Bruce Gerner telling jokes; Andrew Scharfe amazed us with magic tricks; Nick Hankins and dad with a drum and trumpet duet; Maria Scharfe with a vocal solo; Cordy Connor with a rousing rendition of the "12th Street Rag;" PPC's own Chancel Choir; Pastor Dave with guitar and vocal; Brad Macfarlane and Cordy with a euphonium and piano jazz piece; Fred and Judy Taylor (accompanied by Cordy) with a vocal duet; Pam and Alyssa Crossley shared a wonderful dramatic reading with piano accompaniment; Sandi Walker reminded us of the need for laughter in our lives; and we concluded with a barbershop quartet of Bruce Gerner, Fred Taylor, Tim Hoversten, and Pastor Dave).

This was a wonderful night of food, entertainment and fellowship.

The "mission trippers" would like to thank you all who shared their talents and to all who came to eat and listen, as they raised funds for the mission trips to New Orleans and Duluth this summer.
